We were honored to host Sensei Avi Rokah for the 30th Annual ISKA Master's Seminar in memory of Master Nishiyama on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22-23rd, 2016. Thank you to Sensei Peter Johnson for the generous use of his beautiful dojo located in San Bruno, CA.
It was a great weekend of in-depth training, focusing on concepts developed by Sensei Nishiyama - We generally refer to these group of concepts as "Body Dynamic," but they encompass concepts such as posterior and anterior core muscle control, breath-initiated-movement, timing and catching opponent's intention (feeling), optimum musco-skeletal alignment for power generation from the ground, and understanding different ways of generating power through body dynamic (rotational, vibration, shifting [forward/back, side to side], pendulum, and sinking/rising). You can read more about Sensei Avi's teachings in his blog.
Sensei Avi is also at work on a new book. The release date is yet to be determined, but it sounds like it will be a must have for the serious karate practitioner! We are hoping that in addition to the rich technical advice, there will be many anecdotal stories about training with Nishiyama for 27 years.
A January seminar with Sensei Avi may be in the works for Puerto Rico with an ISKA affiliate in San Juan. If you are anyone you know would be interested in this seminar, please send us an email and we will be sure to get details to you.
