Annual Beach Trainings

The annual beach trainings are the first Sunday in June and the last Sunday in September and provide the ISKA community an opportunity to practice kihon, kata, and other fun activities to boost our technique, endurance, stamina and spirits.
For comradery, every beach training celebrates with a community potluck immediately after the training.

Upcoming Beach Trainings

June 7, 2026 and September 27, 2026 -- Save the dates!

Join us as we welcome the start and end of Summer with Karate Beach Training at Stinson Beach, Scheduled annually the first Sunday in June and the last Sunday in September from 9:30 am to 1 pm

Hosted by Hanshi Rick Llewelyn, ISKA

With the sand between our toes and the ocean in our sights, we will practice Kihon (basic techniques), Kata (Forms), and other fun activities to boost our technique, endurance, stamina, and spirits. Join us as we welcome the start and end of summer with karate training on the beach and stay for a friendly potluck after training.

Everyone is welcome to join. Any style, any age. We practice mainly Shotokan Karate, but training will be appropriate for anyone training in Karate.

Details:
  • Training begins at approximately 9:30 am. The parking lot usually opens right at 9 am.
  • Parking is free, but we recommend arriving early to get a good parking spot, especially on sunny days.
  • Training goes until around 11 am. Potluck begins immediately afterward, closer to 11:30 am.
  • Wear layers; it can be quite cool if foggy or warm, if sunny.
  • Wear sunscreen. Hats and glasses are discouraged. Please, no jewelry.
  • Bring a dry change of clothes and towels to dry off with. Bring two garbage bags- one for your wet gi and one for your wet belt, so it doesn't bleed on your gi.
  • No training fees, but please bring something for the potluck and a positive, ready-to-train attitude.
  • RSVP's are appreciated, so we know how many utensils, etc. to bring. (Email to [email protected] to RSVP).
  • Please sign up for something on the Potluck signup Sheet.

Directions:
We recommend taking Sir Francis Drake Blvd through Fairfax and Olema. It is a much less windy route than taking Hwy 1 from Sausalito. Directions from the Vallejo/Fairfield area.
