Toiletries: Towel(s) and washcloth, toothbrush/paste, shaving supplies, deodorant, shampoo, soap, lotion, etc. Routine medications (with written instructions from the parent if a minor comes with a group). Think about tylenol/ibruprofen, bandaids, and other minor first-aid items. Earplugs are recommended for a good night sleep. Athletic/kinesiology tape may come in handy for minor strains and sprains.
Masks and Hand Sanitizer. As we are unsure of what the requirements will be at the time of camp, we may need to wear masks while indoors. Please bring one or more that you feel comfortable training in just in case. Please bring your own personal hand sanitizer and remember to use it frequently, even if vaccinated, just to be safe. Sleeping bag, pillow: It can get cold at night. If no sleeping bag, then three blankets. No linens are provided. Sleeping pad, optional: Optional, if you need additional support. Snacks, drinks, etc: Meals are provided, and water, but not soda and snacks. The camp will not be using disposable cups in order to reduce waste. You may wish to bring a couple for yourself. Please plan to bring your own refillable water bottle. If you have special dietary needs and need to bring your own food, please let us know. There is limited refrigerator space. Karate uniform and belt. The ISKA standard is a plain white gi. ISKA patch is optional. Patches will be available at the camp for $5. If your usual uniform is different, that's OK. Good idea to have your mouthguard and groin cup in your kit. Daytime clothes: It is warm in the daytime. Shorts, T-shirts are recommended. Sweatpants might be more comfy at night. Nighttime clothes: It can get cold at night. Warm coat/sweater/sweatshirt. Long pants. Extra underwear: The Saturday afternoon workout gets pretty hot and sweaty. You will want to shower and change before dinner. Tennis shoes/socks for running; also sandals or beach shoes to wear between sessions and in the bath facilities. Insect repellant: Mosquitos come to visit about 6 pm. Sun block: The weather even when foggy can be deceiving. If spending a lot of time outside, it's a good idea to apply sunscreen as the UV rays still penetrate the clouds, especially if you are light sensitive. Saturday afternoon can be sunny and hot. Notebook and pen/pencil: The ISKA summer camp is a teaching camp. There will be things you will want to write down after each session. Flashlight and extra batteries or headlamp. We sometimes take a walk in the forest after dark. A good idea for groups that include children is to bring board games, playing cards, balls. Camera and extra film/batteries/digital storage card. Anisa says, "Precious memories will be made here." She's right. Take pictures with new and old friends and in common areas. Filming of training sessions is prohibited except by the staff. Kobudo weapons: If you live locally and have a Bo staff (6 ft. long), please bring with you. We often train with Bo and it's always good if those who have them can bring them. We occasionally train in nunchaku as well. Money! There are ISKA souvenirs for sale at the camp. Budget $25-100 for and books, patches, posters, etc... Credit cards accepted, cash preferred. |
