From ISKA President, Hanshi Rick Llewelyn:
Dec. 23rd, 2016, 2pm
One year ago today at this very moment that I am writing this message I was arriving at the Madera Community Hospital. I received a call 3 hours earlier from Marcus Cruz to inform me that his Dad, Hanshi Cruz, was in his last few hours of life. I arrived just in time to see Hanshi Cruz before he drifted off under the heavy doses of medication that he was receiving to comfort him, allowing him to pass on peacefully.
It was a very sad moment for me and many of my nakamas who loved Hanshi Cruz dearly. As a true fighter, he hung on to life for another 24 hours and passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2015. In my last moments with Hanshi Cruz, I shared with him that I loved him and committed to keeping his legacy alive through the vibrancy of the ISKA. Robert Stevenson and I, with the assistance of Laura Lorenz (ISKA Secretary), mentored by Bruce Clayton (retired ISKA Secretary), have done our best over the past year to continue to keep the ISKA alive. I would like to thank all ISKA members and friends who have supported us in this endeavor.
As you celebrate the Holiday Season, I urge all ISKA members and friends to join us in a moment of silence tomorrow December 24, 2016, in observation of the passing of a truly great martial artist and Karate Master, Hanshi Vincent Cruz. Visit the ISKA website, www.santenkarate.com, and ISKA Facebook page for information on 2017 ISKA developments to continue to honor our fallen Master Cruz. I would also like to extend my regards to the Cruz Family during this bitter sweet Holiday Season.
