Kata(s) of the Month
July - August 2017

Gankaku 岩鶴 and Meikyo Nidan 明鏡二段
We continue with our study of Gankaku as we were not able to fully cover the kata movement and bunkai last month. We will be covering Meikyo Nidan in addition and reviewing Heian Godan for kyu belts.

Gankaku Bunkai

Meikyo Nidan  明鏡二段
Meikyo Nidan is a kata created by Tetsuhiko Asai Sensei. You can see the addition of more circular movements, as he had a preference for these types of movements.
Sensei Andre Bertel, one of Asai Sensei's top students, wrote a blog entry about the history of the three Meikyo kata, which may lend some helpful information for understanding these kata.
